Walk of Names

May 23    1:00 pm

What is the Walk of Names?
It is an opportunity to remember the names of some of the 1.5 million children who were murdered by the Nazis.
It is an opportunity to get beyond just the numbers, to speak and hear a name of a child.
It is an opportunity to remember stories  and events which unfolded at a time when death engulfed a people.

Who is sponsoring the Walk and how can we participate?
The Journey Students, an 8th grade program of the Shoah Remembrance Committee of Muskegon, to learn about Racism and Hate through the lens of the Holocaust and adults will be walking and others are invited to join us. The students will be inviting people to be sponsors to pledge towards the Journey Program and the education events of the SRCM.

Where will the Walk take place?
The Walk will be downtown Muskegon beginning across the street from Walker Arena and proceed to The Depot, Samuel Lutheran Church, First Congregational Church, Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ, Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Paul’s Church and ending at the Synagogue, B’nai Israel.

Can I meet the group at a particular location, and what will happen?
Yes we will post a time frame on the website, and send to your church or email you if requested. We may not be there right on time but we can give a time frame and you are more than welcome to join the Walkers. At each location we will read a story about “why ” that place in the Holocaust story; light a candle and read the names of children and speak a memorial.
